Megaphone Podcast Publishing

Overview

Megaphone is the Spotify-owned syndication platform for podcast. It supports both audio-only and video podcasts, and has integrations to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, iHeart Studios, Amazon Music & Audible, Pandora and TuneIn.

Wildmoka integrates with Megaphone (megaphone.fm) to let you publish audio and video clips directly as podcast episodes. Once a Megaphone publish destination account is configured, Wildmoka editors can publish any clip to a Megaphone audio or video podcast in a few clicks from the publish panel.

This article helps you get started with Megaphone by walking through the basic setup and your first publishing workflow. You’ll learn what Megaphone lets you do, what you need before you begin, and how to publish and verify your content.

Note: Megaphone is not enabled by default but can be made available as a standard publish destination for all customers at no additional cost - please contact your Backlight representative for enabling this destination.

Creating a Megaphone Publish Destination Account

Megaphone publish destination accounts are managed in the Destinations section of Wildmoka. Before starting, have the following ready from your Megaphone CMS account:

  • API Token — found under Megaphone CMS > Settings > API Tokens
  • Network ID — visible in your Megaphone CMS URL: cms.megaphone.fm/organizations/{orgId}/networks/{networkId}
  • Organization ID — same URL as above

Step 1 — Select Destinations in the left sidebar

Navigate to the Destinations section ('share' icon) in the left sidebar. The Connectors tab lists all existing publish destinations.

Step 2 — Add a New Destination

Click the red + button in the top-left corner. A dialog box appears listing all supported destination types. Select Megaphone.

Step 3 — Fill in the Megaphone Account Form

The Edit Megaphone Account form opens with two sections:

Megaphone API Credentials

Field Required Description
Display name No Human-readable label for this destination as shown in the Wildmoka UI
Image URL (https) No Custom icon URL to represent this destination
API Token Yes Your Megaphone personal API token
Organization ID Yes Your Megaphone organization identifier
Network ID Yes Your Megaphone network identifier

Rendition Settings

Field Required Description
Force specific rendition No When checked, locks all publications to a single pre-set encoding. An additional Default Rendition selector appears.

When Force specific rendition is unchecked, editors select the encoding format at publish time. When checked, the rendition is applied automatically and the rendition selector is hidden from the publish panel.

Click Save. Wildmoka immediately validates your credentials against the Megaphone API. If the API token or Network ID is invalid, an error is displayed and the account is not saved.

Publishing a Clip to Megaphone

Once a Megaphone destination is configured, it becomes selectable in the publish panel for any clip or program.

Publish Panel Fields

Field Required Description
Aspect Ratio No Select the clip crop ratio prior to encoding. Hidden when Force specific rendition is enabled on the account.
Rendition Yes Select the audio or video encoding format (e.g. MP3, AAC, MP4). Filtered by aspect ratio. Hidden when Force specific rendition is enabled.
Podcast Yes Select the target Megaphone podcast within your network. The dropdown is populated live from the Megaphone API. Use the refresh icon to reload if stale.
Episode Title Yes Title of the new episode. Maximum 500 characters. Maps to the Megaphone title field.
Episode Description No A short description or summary for the episode. Maps to the Megaphone summary field.

Subtitles: Subtitle publication is not currently supported for Megaphone destinations.

Automatically Set Fields

The following Megaphone metadata is set by Wildmoka automatically — editors cannot override these from the publish panel:

Megaphone Field Value
pubdate Current date/time at publish time, ISO 8601 format
explicit Always false
episodeType Always "full"
mediaFileUrl Signed URL of the encoded audio/video asset uploaded to storage
backgroundImageFileUrl Signed URL of the clip thumbnail (1:1 square, auto-generated if available)

After a successful publish, a direct link to the newly created episode in the Megaphone CMS is stored as the publication permalink in Wildmoka.

Supported Audio/Video Formats

Wildmoka detects the rendition format and assigns the correct file extension automatically when uploading:
MP3 · AAC · M4A · OGG · Opus · WAV · FLAC · WMA · AIFF · ALAC · and standard video containers based on the selected rendition.
