Audio control is essential for producing polished clips. Use it to duck background music under speech, mute unwanted noise, or smooth transitions between scenes. With audio segment edition, you can edit your clip's audio tracks, or split the audio track into segments and edit each one individually.
Editing the clip's audio track
To adjust the volume for the entire clip, or fade in/fade out at the clip boundaries, type Shift+E or right-click anywhere in the clip's audio waveform and select Edit audio segment to open the audio segment editor.
With the audio segment editor, you can adjust the volume from 0% to 200%, or fade in or fade out with adjustable durations.
Splitting the audio track into segments
To split your audio track into two or more segments:
- Move the playhead to the frame where the audio track should split.
- Click the audio waveform icon in the player ribbon menu, or type Shift+S.
This splits the audio track into two segments at the playhead position. The selected segment is highlighted with a green frame. - Once a segment is created, you can refine its boundaries by dragging the green frame edges left or right. If a segment boundary overlaps with a clip boundary, adjust the clip boundary and the segment will update automatically.
Editing an audio segment
Right-click inside the segment and select Edit audio segment from the popup menu.
Alternatively, you can type Shift+E to open the segment editor for the segment containing the playhead.
For each audio segment, you can:
- Adjust the volume from 0% to 200% to raise, lower, or mute the audio for that segment.
- Apply fade in / fade out to create smooth transitions at the start and end of a segment. Set the duration in seconds for each independently. You can also click the preset buttons (0.5s, 1.0s, or 2.0s) to apply the same value to both fade in and fade out.
- Reset to restore the segment to its default values (volume at 100%, no fade in , no fade out).
- Switch to the previous or next segment using the left and right arrows in the tool title bar.
Deleting an audio segment
Right-click inside the audio segment and select Delete audio segment from the popup menu.
Deleting a segment removes the segmentation point. The audio signal is preserved, and the segment merges with the previous one.
Audio segment edition for multi-audio tracks
For clips with multiple audio tracks, the audio edition and audio segmentation applies to the selected audio track only. For editing multiple audio tracks, you shall select and edit them one by one.
